GeForce NOW games are running from the cloud, which means they are running on a server in a data center, not directly from your SHIELD.
If you experience a reduction in streaming quality or lag, you may wish to try these tips to improve it:
Update your SHIELD software and SHIELD Hub app to the latest version. We are constantly improving our software.
Check to see if other devices in your home are connected to the Internet and downloading files. Anything that uses significant bandwidth, such as streaming video, downloading files, and file sharing can affect GeForce NOW performance. Try disabling these to improve your experience.
If possible, switch to a wired network.
If you are using a wireless network, follow these tips:
Use an NVIDIA SHIELD™-Ready 5 GHz Wi-Fi router. These products have been tested to work with GeForce NOW.
Upgrade your router's firmware to the latest version.
Make sure you are connecting your router at 5 GHz mode. Newer routers allow users to connect at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The router's settings menu should allow you to set up a separate SSID for 5 GHz mode.
Move closer to your Wi-Fi router. The further away you are from your router, the lower the signal, which will degrade your Wi-Fi performance.
Try to get a better line of sight to your router. Obstacles inside your home, such as walls and floors, can affect Wi-Fi performance.
Use Android or iOS apps like "WiFi Analyzer" to find unused Wi-Fi channels in your home.
Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may be experiencing network congestion at certain times of the day. You can run the GeForce NOW network test to check your speeds at different times during the day and see if your performance changes. You can access this under SHIELD Hub > GeForce NOW > Settings > Service Location > Test Location. If this continues to happen, you may want to consider switching ISPs.
Check your home network to see how many routers, switches, or hubs are between your cable modem and your SHIELD. Each network component can add latency to your overall experience, resulting in lag.
Only use the NVIDIA SHIELD controller. Third-party game controllers may introduce latency.
Some TV models can add lag to GeForce NOW because they perform video image preprocessing. Please check if your TV has a "Game Mode" setting, which may help to reduce lag. Please note that not all TVs work the same in Game Mode, so check with your TV manufacturer on how to turn off image preprocessing modes on your TV.
GeForce NOW streams games at up to 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second, depending on the quality of your Internet connection and the game. All games on GeForce NOW have the best graphic settings automatically applied at startup time. These settings are generated by NVIDIA to deliver the best quality and performance based on your Internet speed and the game's visual complexity. If you change the in-game settings, this will likely affect the performance of the game on GeForce NOW. Therefore, we do not recommend that anyone change these settings.
You can quit any game from GeForce NOW using the
on-screen control by tapping two
fingers on the SHIELD touch screen or pressing and holding the SHIELD
start button. This will bring
up the on-screen menu. Select "Quit" to go back to SHIELD Hub.
No. You must restart the game and select one of your save games. The game will not launch exactly where you were when you were disconnected.
Please make sure you meet the network requirements to run GeForce NOW.

The latest SHIELD Hub app from the Google Play Store. Please visit the store as the app may not automatically update.
A minimum bandwidth of 10Mbps is required to stream games on GeForce NOW at 720p and 60fps. A minimum bandwidth of 25Mbps is required for 1080p and 60fps quality.
Home network with 60 ms or less ping time to a GeForce NOW server.
NVIDIA SHIELD™-Ready 5 GHz Wi-Fi router
Yes. If you reconnect within five minutes to the GeForce NOW server, you will rejoin your game where you left off.
You must clear SHIELD Hub data before you can reset your PIN.
NOTE Clearing SHIELD Hub data will log you
out of your NVIDIA account.
To reset your PIN, follow these steps:
On your SHIELD device,
go to Settings
> Apps > SHIELD
Hub > Clear data.
The next time you launch GeForce NOW, you will be prompted to log in again.
On your next GeForce NOW purchase, you will be asked to verify your payment information. You will need the Security Code for your credit card.
Establish a new PIN.
In most cases, the IP addresses used by your ISP's domain name servers are automatically set by your ISP via the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). To use another DNS server (Google Public DNS, OpenDNS, etc) you need to manually change this setting on your local router.
Misrouting may occur if you use a different DNS server (e.g., GoogleDNS, OpenDNS) than those provided by your ISP. If you suspect misrouting, confirm that the DNS settings on your router match those provided by your ISP. This applies for all SHIELD devices (SHIELD Android TV, SHIELD tablet, and SHIELD portable).
Under Apps > Network settings > Either Wi-Fi | Ethernet > Advanced options > IP settings, select "Static" and follow the steps on the screen to set up Static IPs.
When you get to the DNS screen, this can be obtained from your local router settings > WAN settings page.
In summary, configure your SHIELD device to have Static IP + ISP DNS settings.
