Settings > Device
The options listed under the Device category of Settings allow you to customize the look and feel of your SHIELD portable. These are standard Android settings so only those settings that have SHIELD-related information are discussed here.

Special capabilities unique to the NVIDIA SHIELD portable make playing console-class games possible on Android.
Tap on Connect a wireless controller to connect a SHIELD controller with your SHIELD and enable system navigation and console-like game play from across the room.
Tap on Forget all controllers to unconnect the wireless controller.
Check
Enable Gamepad Mapper so that
long-pressing the Start
button
launches the mapper overlay.
Check Enable auto download to automatically download an official NVIDIA mapping profile from the cloud, if available.
Check
Use right stick as virtual mouse
to designate the right analog stick as a virtual mouse pointer. The
mouse click is simulated by pressing either right trigger
,
button, or by pushing (clicking) the right stick
.
Check Treat mouse as touch to treat all mouse click as screen touches.
Tap on Pointer speed to adjust the speed of the mouse pointer on the screen. Selecting Pointer speed displays a slider that adjusts the speed your pointer moves with on the screen. Place your finger on the round dot and move the slider right to increase pointer speed and left to decrease pointer speed.

Tap
on LED brightness to adjust
the brightness of the NVIDIA
button LED. Selecting LED brightness
displays a slider that adjusts the brightness of the NVIDIA
button LED.
Check
Pulse LED when device is asleep
to activate the light pulsing effect of the NVIDIA
button LED when SHIELD is in sleep mode.
Tap on Volumes and use the sliders to adjust the volume for music, video, games and other media. Notifications volume can be adjusted too.

In Default Notification, select a sound from the list to be played when a notification is received (for example, an Email notification).
Check Touch sounds to play a selection sound every time you touch the screen.
Check Screen lock sound to play a selection sound every time the screen locks.
Tap on Brightness to control the brightness of the screen with a slider.
Tap on Wallpaper to personalize your screen background by selecting from custom or pre-loaded wallpaper. You can use downloaded images as well.
Check Auto-rotate screen to rotate the screen between landscape and portrait view when you turn SHIELD by 90 degrees. When the option is checked, the screen rotates automatically as you turn the device.
Sleep turns off the screen and enters sleep mode (saves power). To activate (wake) the screen, press any button. Note that the longer the time-out you choose for sleeping, the more battery power you use.
Daydream suspends current activity and displays a selected screen saver. To activate the screen, press any button.
Check Full screen mode to hide the status bar at all times.
Font size provides a font size option of Small, Normal, Large, and Huge.
Color Correction preset gives you the option of a color preset between sRBG and Native modes.
The HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) menu, at this time, only supports a Color Correction preset which allows you to choose between sRBG and Native color presets.
Check Prompt to switch modes when HDMI is connected to prompt the user to switch to Console Mode whenever SHIELD is connected to an external HDMI display.
You SHIELD has 16 GB of internal memory built in. Total space and Available space are shown both numerically and graphically with the color coded bar graph that illustrates a breakdown of storage used, based on the type of data stored.
SHIELD provides a microSD card slot on the back of the device where you can insert a microSD card to provide additional storage space. Total space and Available space are shown both numerically and graphically with a bar graph.
Tap on Unmount SD card before physically ejecting the microSD card from your SHIELD, to safely remove it. A prompt will show for you to confirm microSD card removal.
Tap on Erase SD card to erase all data on the microSD card. You will be prompted and warned before you confirm this action.
Tap on Mount SD card when inserting an microSD card for mounting.
Tap on Erase SD card to erase all data on the microSD card. You will be prompted and warned before you confirm this action.
Tap
the menu button
to set the USB computer connection
mode. In the "Connect As" list, check Media device
(MTP) to connect SHIELD as an external media drive for transfering
files on Windows, or by using Android File Transfer on Mac (see
www.android.com/filetransfer).
The battery icon
displays with the Status indicators at the top-right of the screen. The
icon shows the current battery charge and is a reminder to charge your
battery as the level drops.
The Battery status screen shows the percentage of total charge remaining, the status (Not charging, Charging, or Charged), and a breakdown of battery usage by resource.
Apps are any applications that are turned on and off and take up the entire screen (versus a widget that runs continously and does not take up the entire screen space).
Games
that have been optimized for the SHIELD portable are found by launching
SHIELD Hub
.
Games are listed with the most recent games first. Not all games are optimized for the SHIELD portable.
The
Apps option under Settings
Device
lists downloaded apps, apps that are currently running, and all apps
on the device.
The Users settings option is standard Android and allows you to enter personal information about you, the user. You can also add multiple users who will have their own space on the device.
To add additional users to the SHIELD portable, select ADD USER and follow the instructions on the screen. The new user is taken through the Android setup to configure their space on the SHIELD portable.
Note that the owner of the SHIELD portable has the ability to delete Apps from any added user.
